The SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand invites talents to showcase wickerwork ideas at the ASEAN SELECTIONS 2017
The SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (Public Organization), or SACICT, is inviting artisans and designers to submit their works or plans and vie for the most creative wickerwork award at the ASEAN SELECTIONS 2017, held on the topic of "Innovative Craft of Basketry".
Applicants must be national craftsmen/craftswomen or designers who hold the nationality of an ASEAN member country. Qualified applicants must have at least a five-year experience in creating art and crafts, basketry, wicker basket, wickerwork and visual arts from natural or synthetic materials. The submitted works must conform to the “Innovative Craft of Basketry” topic.
Selection criteria include
ORIGINALITY: A creative or applied artwork which is not a copied idea
IDENTITY: Submitted work should express the identity, wisdom and culture of the applicant’s own country
INNOVATIVENESS: Submitted work should show innovative creativity, notably in the selection process and use of materials, as well as production techniques that are extended from local wisdom in their own countries
DESIGN & AESTHETIC: Submitted work should feature a beautiful design or contain aesthetic value
UNIQUENSS: Submitted work should stand out from handicrafts or other woven products already available in the market
QUALITY: Submitted work should have excellent quality, being meticulously done with the use of suitable raw materials
FUNCTIONALITY: Submitted work should have genuine utility with the special consideration on experience in art and crafts designs worthy of national-or international awards
Selected candidates will receive honorable plagues from the ASEAN Selection 2017, and have the opportunity to display their works to the public. They will also be able to exchange knowledges at the international level.
Interested persons should fill out the application form and attach images of artworks through www.SACICT- http://AWARD.com from now until May 15, 2017. Then, on May 25, 2560, the judging committee will select only 10 works from the submitted images or drafts. The final will comprise 10 works by 10 creators from 10 ASEAN member countries.
Selected works will be displayed at an exhibition which will also feature a special talk on knowledge of woven crafts by the ASEAN Board of Directors. The presentation of ASEAN SELECTION 2017 plagues will be held in July, 2017.
