หนึ่งในความพิเศษของเทศกาลสงกรานต์ในประเทศไทยปีนี้ คือปรากฏการณ์ศิลปะร่วมสมัย ผลงานชื่อ “The Lobster” ล็อบสเตอร์ก้ามโตสีแดงส้มสดใส ผลงานโดย ฟิลิป โคลแบร์ ซึ่งได้จัดแสดงและปรากฏผลงานหลากหลายรูปแบบในทั่วโลก ทั้งภาพวาด ประติมากรรม ไปจนถึงสินค้าแฟชั่น เป็นไอคอนสุดป๊อปที่โด่งดังไปทั่วโลก
“ผมกลายเป็นศิลปิน เมื่อผมกลายเป็นล็อบสเตอร์” โคลแบร์ ศิลปินผู้ถือกำเนิดใหม่ในร่างของล็อบสเตอร์ กล่าวถึงการสร้างสรรค์คาแรกเตอร์ล็อบสเตอร์ (Lobster Persona) ขึ้น โดยสื่อสารและแสดงออกทางศิลปะผ่านคาแรกเตอร์ล็อบสเตอร์ที่เขาสร้างสรรค์ขึ้น เป็นเสมือนสัญลักษณ์แสดงถึงการตื่นรู้ทางศิลปะ และเป็นสะพานนำไปสู่การสำรวจวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย และประวัติศาสตร์ศิลป์ ด้วยผลงานป๊อปอาร์ตที่เปี่ยมไปด้วยสีสันสดใส ผสมผสานวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย และงานศิลปะคลาสสิก บวกกับเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวที่เต็มเปี่ยมด้วยจินตนาการโคลแบร์จึงกลายเป็นดาวเด่นในวงการศิลปะร่วมสมัย จนได้รับการขนานนามว่า "ทายาททางศิลปะของแอนดี้วอร์ฮอล"
ในวัฒนธรรมตะวันตก ล็อบสเตอร์เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความอุดมสมบูรณ์ และถูกมองว่าเป็นอาหารอันโอชะที่ดูหรูหรามีราคา ขณะเดียวกัน ด้วยรูปร่างที่โดดเด่น สีสันดึงดูดสายตา บวกกับลักษณะนิสัยเฉพาะตัวของสัตว์ซึ่งมักต่อสู้กันเองเพื่อแย่งชิงอาหารและดินแดน คาแรกเตอร์ล็อบสเตอร์ของโคลแบร์ จึงสะท้อนถึงด้านมืดของธรรมชาติของมนุษย์ด้วย

สำหรับประวัติของ ฟิลิป โคลแบร์ ศิลปินหนุ่มชาวอังกฤษ เกิดปี 1980 ที่เมือง Aberdeen ประเทศสก็อตแลนด์ สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาโท สาขาวิชาปรัชญาจากมหาวิทยาลัยเซนต์แอนดรูส์ โคลแบร์สร้างชื่อเสียงระดับโลกด้วยคาแรกเตอร์ล็อบสเตอร์สุดแนว และภาพวาดแนวไฮเปอร์ป๊อปอันทรงพลัง ผลงานของเขาสำรวจลวดลายของวัฒนธรรมดิจิทัลร่วมสมัย และความสัมพันธ์กับบริบททางประวัติศาสตร์ศิลป์ จนได้รับการยกย่องในระดับสากล โดยได้จัดแสดงในพิพิธภัณฑ์และหอศิลป์ทั่วโลก ด้วยแนวคิดใหม่ที่สดใสในการผสมผสานจิตรกรรมและทฤษฎีป๊อปอาร์ต

Siam Paragon, a ‘global destination’ that attracts visitors from around the globe, is set to celebrate a phenomenal summer and Thailand’s iconic Songkran festival with an event Siam Paragon Ultrasonic Water Festival 2024 “Songkran Lobster Wonderland by Philip Colbert.” The summer fest will feature an exclusive colossal art installation by world-renowned British Pop Art artist Philip Colbert” bringing his iconic artwork, the “Lobster,” to Bangkok, from 9 -16 April 2024 at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon. The event is held in collaboration with KASIKORNBANK Public Company Limited and JOOX.
The “Lobster,”a vibrant giant lobster in bright red by Philip Colbert will mark a major contemporary art scene for Thailand this year. The artist has showcased various forms of his artwork worldwide, ranging from paintings and sculptures, to fashion merchandises, recognized as iconic figure in the global pop art scene.
“I became an artist when I became a Lobster,” said Colbert. The creation of his Lobster persona communicates and expresses art through the lobster character. This persona serves as a symbol of artistic awakening and a bridge to the exploration of contemporary culture and art history. With his vibrant pop art creations, blending contemporary culture with classic artworks, and his uniquely imaginative identity, Colbert has become an aspiring artist in the contemporary art world, earning him the title “Godson of Andy Warhol.”
In Western culture, lobsters are symbolized as a sign of abundance and are considered a luxurious delicacy. With their distinctive shape and captivating colors, combined with their characteristically competitive nature in fighting for food and territory, lobsters also reflect the darker aspects of human nature.
Colbert began exhibiting large-scale pop art exhibitions featuring lobster characters for the first time in 2017. Since then, the lobster has become his signature, embodying various narratives of contemporary pop culture through vibrant, lively, and entertaining colors, while also subtly criticizing and satirizing modern society. He has created the Lobster World through paintings, prints, sculptures, and exhibitions showcased worldwide. His work has received international acclaims from collectors and art critics globally earning him one of the most prominent contemporary artists in the present day.
“Lobster land is my creative universe where my lobster persona lives in freedom,” said the artist.For a biography of Philip Colbert: an English artist born in 1980 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He completed a master's degree in Philosophy from Saint Andrews University. Colbert gained global recognition with his cutting-edge Lobster Landscapes and powerful hyper-pop paintings, exploring the intricacies of digital culture and its relationship with the historical context of art. He has been acclaimed internationally. His works are exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide with a fresh approach that blends painting and pop art theory.
The Lobster he created is symbolizing humanity in the contemporary era, captivated by consumerism and the pursuit of happiness. His lobster persona has traveled to showcase across the globe.
