Parties Announce Plans to Jointly Create Unique Work Experience/Internship Programs

Nov. 27, 2018, Bangkok, Thailand – UNIQLO and Bangkok University International today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking the first agreement in Thailand for UNIQLO to create internship opportunities that specifically deliver insight and experience in working at global companies for Bangkok University students. The signing ceremony took place at Bangkok University’s City Campus, attended by Mr. Chino Seiken, Chief Financial Officer of UNIQLO Thailand, and Associate Professor, Dr. Michael Pfahl, Dean of Bangkok University International.

The new agreement between UNIQLO and Bangkok University International will provide opportunities for Bangkok University students to gain valuable global business insights and knowledge across several key business divisions, such as Store Operations, Store Operations Support, Marketing, Accounting and Human Resources in order to get a holistic understanding of retail systems via the Uniqlo way. Students will develop knowledge about UNIQLO products and services, and the apparel industry in preparation for a long-term career success.

During the collaborative program, students will also participate in a number of sustainability and social impact activities that deliver broader societal benefits for Thailand, including recycled clothing donations, an education center for people with disabilities and special in-store shopping experiences for disadvantaged people. Such activities are included in the program to help deepen the bond between UNIQLO and local Thai communities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Chino Seiken, Chief Financial Officer of UNIQLO Thailand, said, “We are delighted to sign this agreement with Bangkok University International. Fast Retailing is committed to making the world a better place; we truly believe in the power of clothing to improve the lives of people and communities everywhere. This MOU will bring great opportunities for Thai students to acquire knowledge of the roles, functions and responsibilities in a global work environment and to enhance education in Thailand.”

Associate Professor Dr. Michael Pfahl, Dean of Bangkok University International, added, “On behalf of Bangkok University International, it is a great honor and privilege to collaborate with UNIQLO on an internship program where students will be involved in valuable projects. The UNIQLO program spans various fields and demonstrates the importance UNIQLO places on diversity in education. The program offers a bright path for our students, so we look forward to a long relationship with UNIQLO. It is a fantastic opportunity for Bangkok University International to bring its resources and ideas to UNIQLO to champion and to amplify their work in Thailand.”

While paving the way to a better future for university students and education in Thailand, the new MOU also promises to deliver a number of opportunities to promote education and to enhance life-long learning in Thailand.
