Unveiling 20 Modern Entrepreneurs Who Make It to “Por Laew Dee The Creator 2” Project to Explore New Dimension of Sufficiency in Business World

When we know what’s “sufficient” and use that as a base for our creativity, we can create something “good” for ourselves and our society.

Por Laew Dee” is a project that supports role models of our society based on “sufficiency economy” and “creative economy”, using His Majesty King Bhumibol’s sufficiency philosophy to adapt to the modern lifestyle through various businesses in order to change the definition of business. The project was initiated by Dr Sirikul Laukaikul, the director of Por Laew Dee; Ukrit Wongthongsalee, project manager; and Wiroj Chimmee, owner of Baan Rai Ai Arun from Por Laew Dee The Creator 1.

Recently, 20 entrepreneurs from various industries have been carefully chosen to join Por Laew Dee The Creator 2 in order to inspire other people to see the value of sustainable business. The seminar will take place on March 14 at Multipurpose Room, 1st floor, Bangkok Arts & Culture Center (BACC), Rama I Road.

Dr Sirikul Laukaikul, the director of Por Laew Dee, talked about the objectives of the project and the definition of sufficiency. “Por Laew Dee was established in 2016 as a project to spread the knowledge and offer guidance based on the philosophy of sufficiency economy and creative economy for businesspeople and the general public to adapt to their businesses and their daily life. We believe that in order to create a sustainable business based on this philosophy, there are three core points – moderation or self actualization, so that you are able to assess and evaluate yourself,  reasonableness or self rationalization by making sure you think about causes and effects, and prudence or self immunity by thinking about the future. There are also two necessary conditions – knowledge and virtue.”

Ukrit Wongthongsalee, project manager, talked about the project. “This year’s project has three main activities. The first one is Por Laew Dee The Creator intensive workshop from March to June, three days per sessions, three sessions in total, and a site visit for the 20 finalists.

“The second activity is Por Laew Dee Open House, two sessions of full day seminar. The first one is on March 23 at Bangkok University, Rangsit Campus, open to 100 university students and the general public. The second session is around mid-2017 to educate people about the philosophy of sufficiency economy and creative economy, which will help students after graduation and help current businesses improve their methods. The third activity is Por Laew Dee Boot Camp for Thai students on school break and Thai students overseas who return home during their school break to come learn about His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s philosophy of sufficiency economy. The aim is for the participants to spread the philosophy to their friends both in Thailand and overseas.”

Wiroj Chimmee, from Por Laew Dee The Creator 1, is a representative of the new generation who follows the philosophy of sufficiency economy. He talked about what he’s learned from Por Laew Dee, “I had the opportunity to study His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s philosophy and adapt it to the place that I already had. Initially, I wasn’t so sure about my brand of Baan Rai Ai Arun, so I decided to join the project to educate myself. I also intended to spread the knowledge to other people. Getting to meet other participants and the trainers in the project taught me about branding and being myself. The philosophy of sufficiency economy has always been at the centre of what I do, but I’ve learned that sufficiency economy is not about surviving on the bare minimum, but about doing things that suit your condition in a way that brings happiness to yourself and your family. The trainers also taught me to know, evaluate and insure myself, while also sharing with others. A good brand has to give back to the society too.”

The owner of Baan Rai Ai Arun, a famous farm stay business in Kaper, Ranong said that over the past year after joining the project, his community has grown steadily and sustainably. Baan Rai Ai Arun is like a showroom where the locals can come and showcase their talents. These wonderful ideas came from Por Laew Dee project. “I adapt the knowledge that I learned and try to share it with others to inspire people to develop their hometown. Every time I have a chance to share my knowledge or be a speaker, I encourage people to have such a model in their community, to ensure creative development in each province, following the philosophy of sufficiency economy,” Wiroj concluded.

All the 20 finalists of Por Laew Dee The Creator 2 are young generation entrepreneurs from various businesses including resorts, hotels, co-working space, printing, agriculture, organic consumer goods, and crafts.
